The West Central GA Chapter of the American Red Cross held the Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the National Infantry Museum The luncheon meeting introduced a slate of new Board members, including Erin Stuckey, Shelly Matthews and Russ Stewart.

The highlight of the Chapter Annual Meeting was the presentation of two special awards. One, the Clara Barton Award, the highest honor within the American Red Cross, was given to Bob Poydasheff. Poydasheff received the award for more than 30 years of exceptional support to the local Red Cross including as a former Board Chair and for leadership of the HEROES for Red Cross Campaign.

The Volunteer Hall of Fame was also introduced at the meeting. The first recipient, Lillian Sullivan, serves as the Chapter’s Director of Volunteers. Sullivan has served Red Cross for 55 years in volunteer leadership – through Knit Your Bit, when local volunteers knitted socks for WWII service members, Operation Babylift, when babies and children were rescued during the Vietnam War, through today, as the Chapter provides supplies and comfort to military families in the Iraq War with the adoption of the Red Cross Station in Baghdad. Colonel Roy Brooks, a loyal volunteer at the Chapter’s Ft. Benning Station and Chairman of the Red Cross Shuttle Service at Martin Army Hospital was also inducted into the Volunteer Hall of Fame.
